New Airplane Train Ride for Youngsters:
Museum volunteers have completed a new attraction for younger children. They can actually ride in a model plane around the museum grounds! Please come see and enjoy this latest addition to the museum.
Douglas C-54 Skymaster Restoration:
The museum aquired the C-54, our largest aircraft in 2022 from Buffalo Airways. It was built in 1945 and served in the Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949. Gail Halvorsen was one of the pilots during that time and became famous for dropping candy with parachutes to the children of Berlin. Later, he continued this tradition over many parts of Utah, including Saint George.
The airplane was later converted to a tanker and used for spraying pests and firefighting in the forests of Canada.
Our volunteers have been very busy preparing the plane for tours and for use as a classroom for educating children on the identification of aircraft parts and on the basics of flight. After removing the fluid tanks, insulation was added to the internal fusalage, along with air conditioning to help keep the inside temperature comfortable for our visitors.
Please come visit, and learn more about this historic aircraft and many others at the museum.
Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum currently has ongoing projects to meet its goals and objectives as a warbird museum. Currently, our MiG-UTI, MiG-17, T-38 Talon, F5B, and T-37 aircraft are being re-manufactured and assembled in the museum's hangars. Those interested to see these aircraft may do so during operating hours or during a specially scheduled tour. Visitors are encouraged to linger in the museum to reminisce war history.
Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum has huge potential to grow and become one of the most dynamic and unique warbird museums in the Western United States. There are many ideas on the drawing board for enhancing our fleet, including upgrading the paint job on one of the MiGs to closely resemble the Warbirds during the war period.
Visitors to this website or the actual museum are encouraged to let us know their thoughts and ideas for improvement and growth of the museum and its collection.
Also, we encourage you to become active supporters of the museum by donating money to support our efforts. Your TAX DEDUCTIBLE donations allow us to acquire authentic parts and supplies to help us meet our goal of restoring these aircraft to their original war-ready condition.
